My buddy Trey Long (pictured on the right) has made a fancy Flex 2 Reflection Effect that can be applied to buttons and the like. Thanks to the wickedness of Flex Builder 2 Beta, you can right click on it to get the source as well.

The real problem, if anyone is reading is that I can't figure out how to make it work like a regular bitmap filter that is given in Flex. There is no interface I can follow where I could just add this bad boy to the filters array in a displayobject and have it work.

I'm curious, assuming you used FlexBuilder2.0, how much of the as and mxml was "auto written", if any?

Auto written? Beyond code completion none.

I wasn't aware that FlexBuilder 2.0 had the ability to write programs for you? Unless you mean something else, elaborate.

Not off of the top of my head Sven, when I get to work on it a little more I will try to add an image to the demo. It might be a day or two though.

I went ahead and tried to run an image through the filter. Locally it works fine but when I post it there is some security issue with the image. It seems the filter works pretty well with images too if you can get Flash to access the image.

i saw that you have add an Image in the demo, but i don't see the effect on this. Any other control work fine.

Seen the same thing done in flash 8 (one of the first cool things i seen done in it), now if you can make it react to hover etc.. and be able to spin a image 45° like MS MAX i'd be really impressed ;)

However that flash one was video as well, and you could see the relection move 8-)

Sven, I know the image doesn't show up in the online demo but if you pull the code down and uncomment the image portion in the main MXML file does it reflect then? If not there may be something else at work because the bitmap information for the image is about the same as the buttons and text.

Jason, I can easily add a liveUpdate mode that will listen to the object being reflected, it's just kinda outside of the scope of my little demo. Maybe in a week or so. I also had the idea of a relfectiveSurface component that would just reflect anything you put on it. I could also detect skew settings in a DisplayObject and skew the reflection to follow it.

I see the image in the online demo...but with no reflection on it. If i download your version and run it local the same.

So i think the problem is on the image component and the loader. If i @Embed the jpg everythings work fine. I also switch the execution to the complete event of the image component but with no luck.

It's a mystery that you can see a reflection on the image on your local machine.

Player differences in FF or IE? (i use IE)

I see the buttons reflected but not the bitmap. I am on IE with Player 8.5

Getting a bunch of errors when I try to veiw the page and nothing loads. Any ideas if he will be fixing this, or any other url's it might be posted without error?
